The Highlander Motel along the Route 66 was originally build by Mr. Marchall Duncan in the year 1950. It existed out of a managers-appartment and 8 units till a wing with 4 more units was built in the year 1954. The Duncan's were Irish immigrants with Scottish roots. Scots were also known for their stinginess, so the name Highlander for the motel had two reasons: the first was because of their roots, the second was to let people know that it was a cheap motel. The Duncan's had the motel for 46 years, from 1950 till 1996. The son of Marchall Duncan is still living in Williams, where he runs a real estate business. In 1996 the Highlander Motel was sold to Mrs. Pushba. It was operated by a manager till she sold it. In 2005 Pushba sold the Highlander Motel to Mrs. and Mr. Judy & Fred Brane. They run the business along with their daughter Beverly.Mr. Fred Brane took good care of the building and equipment untill it was sold. In 2011, the Highlander Motel is sold to Alain Aernoudt & Sandra Driesse from Belgium. We ll refresh all the rooms and will add a breakfast-room to the motel, that also will be a diner with Belgian specialties during the day. We hope to welcome you in the historic Route 66 Highlander Motel on your stay in beautiful Williams, Arizona Gateway to the Grand Canyon. Alan & Sandra... A special thanks to Fred & Judy and all the people in Arizona that helped us with our plans!
